Over the years, I saw many of the homes in the Adirondack Mountains that Marc designed and I always dreamed of someday being able to build a home on Lake Champlain and have Marc design it.
About 15 years ago, I found myself traveling to Europe and throughout the Unites States for work. I acquired a lot on Lake Champlain, looking out at the area where our country’s very first Naval battle took place against the British in 1776, to be known as the Battle of Valcour.
As I was traveling most weeks, I desired a home that would be a comfortable Oasis to return to, with views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains of Vermont beyond.
The creation of our home started with Marc visiting the site to observe the views and light so he could make the most of it. After several wonderful and unique pen and ink drawings by Marc, our “Oasis” took shape, and 2 years later it became a reality. Marc and I call our home “Adirondack/Southern Fusion”, representing the best of what Marc learned over the decades of designing homes in both the Adirondacks and the Lowcountry around Charleston, SC.
When a professional home photographer recently visited our home to take photos for Marc’s book of his favorite homes, he volunteered that our home exudes comfort and feels like it has been around for 100 years. When family and friends visit, the universal comment is “this is the nicest home we have ever been in.” Doesn’t that say it all….
